to the skilled podcast we're talking about the latest in gaming and media tonight's guests as drag knicks let's get started so when does 10 has been out for a little while now and we got some new news that apparently when those ten can find in the siebel pirated games specifically is what they said we may automatically check your version of the software and download software update or configuration changes including those that prevent you from accessing the services counterfeit games or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices so this is something you want to talk about any dress code rednecks what's your take on
this so far i think the people who have reported on the story heaven do done their due diligence on the story because if you look further into the agreements and the information that's behind music behind the idea it's not as broad as what is being claimed where they can disable any pirated game a good user on the name on the reddit forums read it goes by the name of genuine i d broke it down in terms of the service agreement and this is actually been published since june is not anything new to windows 10 but what specifically is of note here is the fact that the agreement that is being cited does not necessarily apply to windows 10 it applies to windows ken services and that particular
with windows games published by microsoft for xbox live the section that they called the counterfeit games and on end like the unauthorized hardware peripheral devices was written in regard of microsoft's gaming platform and the ip's of xbox and windows so if you were to say you know try to pirate halo yes it would apply but if we're talking to somebody like dark his dungeon for example the that does not apply and i think that's where people in terms of the the main media section got confused and the fact that deep the actual information had actually already been out there it had been there since june and the fact of the matter is it does not apply to the the basic pirating
that you would see on a normal basis obviously microsoft want to protect their own software but curious about is will this work because i merely thinking no because anti piracy has never really worked at all like almost everything i do think of has a way around it or it's you know being hit in the process of being created whatever kind of modern cracker jack that exists is gonna be created suit it just hasn't been released yet it's all about security when it comes down to it when it comes to security it's one basic concept how high a wall do you build so that it becomes too too much effort to build two to get over it and in terms of gamers i mean gamers will find ways they will
find ways in terms especially the people who really want to know play again they will find ways to play it and gamers as a group including myself maybe one of the most tedious in terms of you know or i should say tedious relentless in terms of vino wine that experience i don't think it will work necessarily even microsoft portion of it may delay things of course but there's always a way around it now with windows tens other sections with the sort of privacy portions and the seemingly sort of updates that happened that may be where things get tricky where things like if it's asking too updated every so often
ok yeah there may be ways around that but you may actually end up disabling some functionality for yourself along the way so it will be interesting to see how microsoft reacts to their section of it but yeah there i don't think this is going to mean it's not going to go away piracy is not going to go away at this point windows itself has always been pirated and they've always taken all these new steps every time there's a new windows like it directly ties into your computer and you know it has to activate online and still they just shut it down baby prevent that from happening which does limit your features but ultimately it's
still being pirated so it didn't really do anything in a way where my concern is is where it's the it's the same argument with drm at the core where i hope in the essence of trying to prevent the pirating that side that you don't end up hurting your own users a good example would like windows 10 per example is that some of the old drm with like secure disk and safety risk on cd cd platforms you know all games that you get on the cd would have that drm don't work on windows 10 anymore because they've got don't have the files to authenticate with so you can play your old bike sims game of disc on the new version of windows 10 it seems like a a system where ok you put
protections in place but a legitimate user can't play it anymore while the pirated person can claim i hope we don't get to a situation where you'd they'd put in so many restrictions that in fact they're not targeting the right people because unfortunately they end up hurting their own you know the good people per se i think that even happen with games for windows lives when it got like i think it's still sort of online but like good luck trying to play a game right now that has games for windows live on it and i think some people actually use cracks that circumvent that in order to play their games at the actually bought yet and i mean it it's good it's going to be
another situation with the drm portion of it again it's one of those things where i i understand room software developer point of view like protecting your ip and things like that but at a certain point you just have to realize that you know you're fighting a battle you may not be able to win it's moreso ok make it make it so that your service is worthwhile in terms of poor people who really want to include your service sometimes it is a service issue we're okay i it's easier to pirate again because i can get access to it or it's it's more free in terms of being able to mod it or you know anything along those lines play around with it as opposed to the situation what you're like we saw
like with assassin's creed two a while ago where the always online drm really hurt the users that actually wanted to play it but the pirated version just fine no problems now what about privacy concerns cuz you know probably were not policing here and i think you should pirate games but you probably shouldn't and you know whatever you do on your computer is your business but for them to have this power that they can disable it it doesn't even say that prevents it says that would disable it just kind of like you know they have a controlled access to your private stuff basically i mean unfortunately i mean the problem is it's in the you in terms of unfortunately we don't forget
to the you like it is in the you look in the agreement in terms of windows 8 so to say that people should know about it no one reads it but yeah it's in there so they should they should i use air quotes there be aware now again this is coming to the software developer sodomy again microsoft tries to protect their own product i get that i really do because again you can lose hundreds and thousands in terms of software sales because of you know pirating and things like that does that give the right to do you know protect their ip by going into your personal stuff i don't think it does but i understand where they're coming from i think it is unfortunately
a fine line that microsoft is crossing with the privacy settings that you know especially in the nowadays where people are protective where you see things like the ashley madison being come out for people with sensitive data is getting out there you know it's only gonna cause more problems when it comes down to it because people are going to be so paranoid that you know ok what are you doing on my system what are you really doing on my system yeah i mean that argument goes all the way back to napster like when piracy first became mainstream that was the biggest issue it wasn't that people are stealing music it's that you know like are we allowed to control what people
are doing on their own computers which most people are you know you're not allowed so that's why it is so difficult for them to police that's what it comes down to the kora at this point it's a matter of no privacy versus you know freedom i mean there's a lot of there's a lot of arguments unfortunately comes down to that at this point so you know this isn't anything new in terms of the the sort of modern day society is just a different form of a you know there's also an argument that and this is more i think this is more of a theory but some people say that piracy can help things actually see the music
they say that all i hear that alot with adobe for designers and editors and stuff because people get access to it before or they still can't get access to meet with their student and a pirate it and they learn to use the software where they they get you know their advantage of it and then eventually they become paid users yeah i mean definitely some arguments i mean is some argument for that where you know just like i mean is similar to the arguments were you see where people are like well i will prior to game to see if it's any good acting like it's a demo and then we'll pay pay for the main product when they feel like okay this is a regional product it's one of those situations are unfortunately on
my side i'm completely the opposite side of that where it's like look i'm sorry i understand the argument that is being made here like it could lead to sales but there's a specific marketing push there's a specific sales push that's being done in terms of like adobe and microsoft being putting themselves out there to sort of go around that i don't know a specially from the software developer site it sort of it would be like complete shit things are completely out of your hands out yet it may lead to sales but in the muddy so the mighty wisdom it valve is always saying that the reason or so much piracy is because the delivery method was an effective and you keep saying a piracy is not an issue
for them because they've improved the delivery method oh yeah i mean it comes down to a service issue and the question is can you make your service well enough or good enough for people to say okay it's not worth my time to pirate or it's you know it's definitely worth my time and money to you you know support somebody who can go and you know create the tools i need so i mean yeah it's definitely you can come down to a service issue that's that's for sure whether or not going going around the company in terms of the ability to do you know what they choose to implement that's where i think mice my sort of you know line crosses there because again i'm very much as a
person who's you know on the software development site seeing it sort of you know succeed but maybe not at your own you know sort of vision i can see where the where people would be like ok hold on a second i can't control what's going on here that sort of sucks i mean i've are more open about the situation of microsoft that is because you know i think part of the reason why they need windows 10 a free upgrade is because they knew that like so many people would pirated like you know don't really need the people who already own it or that people wouldn't have had it is also the reasons why people would not operate and then when those ten would not be a successful but i think there's still
kind of open to it now they're not like and things down so much there's definitely been steps taken at this plan again part of a thing with this like this the scene of the articles regarding the piracy portion you know people are getting you see that headline odor to disable entire games and don't look at the details of it and unfortunately that can lead to like you know their disabling all pirated games no no hold on a second step back a second and then i think i think microsoft is understanding where some of their lines have been drawn in terms of ok don't do this don't do that there are still questionable ones like the automated support our automated updates and things
like that all right let us know in the comments what you guys think you know this piracy is a big problem with windows thanks for watching the skill cast your comments down below on tonight's topics we do leave a response as many of them as we can and if you knew subscribe to the skilled channel is really small school projects episodes every week
